Your water heater, in over a few years, will age and it will not be a surprise if you encounter one issue or another. Also, in that span of time, you might not notice how much your water heater is working and can lead to overheating and worse performance.

Water heaters are quite the investment to make and repairing it can really cost a lot of dollars. That is why addressing the issue and troubleshooting it as early as possible is a must. That is why look out for these issues that you may experience and the best solution to solve them.

  1. There are no hot water going out. If this happens often, go check the pilot light first if it is on. If it is not, just turn it on and hot water should be spewing out again with ease. If the pilot light is on and the water did not change in temperature, it may indicate that there is a much bigger problem needing to be taken care of. Contact your plumber first about this issue.  Hot water is leaking. Leaks are really common in water heaters and even boilers.
  2. Dirt piling up inside your water heater. This happens a lot too in tanked water heaters since sediments will, undoubtedly, sneak through your tank and can make your water dirty. Simply clean your water heater and maintain it regularly.
  3. Not enough water is flowing. There are two main reasons as to why this is happening. One is that your thermostat is not working properly or your water heater is simply too small. For the first reason, contact your technician. The second reason, you will have to upgrade for a bigger water heater or even go for a tankless water heater instead—tankless water heaters are a bit costly though, so do check if you think that you can afford to have your water heater replaced.
  4. Water temperature is wrong. If your water is too hot that it burns your skin or too cold that is not even considered heated, check your thermostat settings. Adjust it to the temperature you want and see it the water changes. If not, then you might have a broken thermostat, or there are sediments in the tank. If there are no sediments, then replacing your thermostat is the solution.
